Taste of the Market
PHOENIX – Phoenix Public Market announces a new partnership, Taste of the Market, with Careers through Culinary Arts Program, C-CAP, that will explore and build upon an existing dedication both non-profits share to build a viable local food system. The partnership will invest in promoting the importance of healthy foods and seasonal eating, while supporting local shopping and cooking. Together we hope to encourage the community to eat better, build a stronger local economy and above all support local growers. Through this new partnership, Phoenix Public Market and C-CAP will enable both chefs and food producers to connect with community while fostering the importance of eating local – making both shopping seasonal and eating healthy simple.
Taste of the Market launches Saturday, July 15th and continues each week. As Phoenix Public Market shoppers explore the Market, they’re greeted with seasonal recipes to sample that inspire customers to shop and eat local! Weekly cooking demonstrations conducted by C-CAP chefs, highlight Phoenix Public Market vendors and celebrate height-of-the-season market ingredients as they educate and inspire home cooks. Market-goers can watch these pros turn the market’s local, seasonal produce into simple, delectable dishes and taste them! Shoppers can go home with recipes, ingredients and new skills to prepare seasonal dishes. This program furthers the Phoenix Public Market mission by supporting small farmers and businesses that strengthen sustainable food systems and produce healthy products for the local community.
C-CAP hosts local Chef Billy Sims and Robert Douglas along with a C-CAP Intern to create recipes and demonstrate ways to utilize Market ingredients. At the end of the season, the C-CAP Intern graduates the program with real-life cooking and knife skills. All recipes can be found online at phxpublicmarket.com/openair/recipebox

In Arizona, C-CAP is a statewide program that prepares 4,300 high school students in 50 schools for college and career opportunities in the restaurant and hospitality industry. C-CAP provides curriculum enrichment for high school culinary classrooms, career exploration and advising opportunities, scholarships through cooking competitions, college advising, teacher professional development and product donations for classrooms.
